Facility Operations Assistant 1 - Broome - Valley Ridge CIT location


Primary Duties and Responsibilities
o Maintains the appearance and conditions of grounds at State facilities. o Cleans grounds by sweeping, raking, shoveling, and removing debris, leaves, branches, etc. o Clears sites and prepares them for planting by raking, tilling soil, adding mulch, and digging. o Plants seeds, bushes, trees, etc. using hand or power equipment. o Cuts grass using lawnmowers; fertilizes and waters grounds; prunes bushes and trees; removes or transplants bushes or trees. o Removes dead trees by cutting and splitting logs using chainsaws, sledgehammers, and wedges. o Loads trucks with debris, logs, dirt, etc. using hand or power equipment. o May construct, repair or paint fences. o Maintains roads, walkways, and parking lots at State facilities. o Breaks up concrete to repair holes using hand or power equipment. o Mixes and applies concrete and asphalt for patches. o Removes trash and debris from roads, walkways, and parking lots by sweeping and shoveling by hand. o Removes snow and ice from walkways by shoveling and operating snow removal equipment. o Plows roads and parking lots with trucks and tractors. o Mixes salt, sand, and calcium for use on walkways and roads and spreads by hand or power equipment. o May perform a variety of manual tasks in support of the building and grounds program. o Sets up and removes snow fences and markers at fire hydrants and catch basins. o Performs routine building maintenance work and minor maintenance on tools and power machines. o Loads and unloads trucks and moves furniture on campus and in the community settings o Shovels, digs ditches, and installs signs. o May lead Individuals and others in the performance of grounds and maintenance activities PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
o Able to work independently or as part of a work team. o Able to operate a variety of hand and power equipment in a safe manner.

Salary Range:
From $31870 to $39423 Annually

There are no education or experience qualifications for this class. Applicants must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position and be able to understand and carry out written or oral instructions. When required to operate motor vehicles, incumbents must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle being operated.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
