Rehabilitation Assistant 1/2 - Broome

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Rehabilitation Assistants 2 are second-level paraprofessionals who assist in the vocational and social rehabilitation of individuals with Developmental Disabilities. They conduct preliminary evaluations of individual's potential and existing capacities and interests, assess their ability to follow directions and work with peers and supervisors to plan and conduct individual and group habilitation programs. This position is based at the Norwich Day Hab.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Duties include but are not limited to: o Directly guiding and assisting individuals in all areas of vocational/habilitation programming, including the line supervision of various activities and pre-vocational programs. o Arranges appropriate activity/program placements. o Provides supportive counseling. o Provides mentoring and coaching. o Assists Rehabilitation Counselor and Habilitation staff in the daily implementation of group activities in vocational and psychosocial areas. o Prepares schedules and programs and arranges for necessary resources. o Arranges transportation if needed. o Implements service and Behavior Support plans. o Identifies individual's progress and growth through the recording of observed behavior and performance in various activities. o Observes individual's work habits and consults with other work site staff. o Assists Rehabilitation Counselors and Habilitation Staff by gathering and distributing materials and supplies required to conduct group activities. o Attends training in day programming, behavior support, and other related topics. o Participates with other habilitation staff in regular, periodic reviews of programs. o Attends and contributes to meetings to review individuals' work attitudes, behavior, performance, and attendance. o Develops and implements routines and goals for individuals to increase attending behavior and acceptance of guidance. o Evaluates overall progress to ensure transition into either less restrictive or more advanced program areas. o Keeps daily records of attendance and performance. o Evaluates plans and goals to ensure that they are current and attainable and notes any significant changes or events. o Develops plans and routines based on needs identified by the treatment team and limitations of available program areas and agency resources.

Salary Range: From $45455 to $58028 Annually
Minimum Qualification
o Candidates must be current in title, o Eligible for 70.1 transfer, or o Reachable on the NYS Civil Service Eligible List for this title. o Provisional appointment may be considered. For provisional appointment you must meet the minimum qualifications for the Paraprofessional Exam and have the qualifying experience for appointment from the Eligible List. These qualifications are: be a qualified employee of New York State and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Direct Support Assistant, Direct Support Assistant (IRM), Direct Support Assistant (Manual Communications) formerly known as Developmental Aide, Developmental Aide (IRM), Developmental Aide (Manual Communications) , Developmental Disabilities Secure Care Treatment Aide 1, Licensed Practical Nurse, Mental Health Therapy Aide, Secure Care Treatment Aide, Teaching Assistant, Training Aide, or in a language parenthetic in any of the above titles. If you have three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a traineeship in one of these titles, you also qualify to take these examinations. After one year of service at the full performance level in a title listed under the minimum qualifications, successful candidates will be qualified for appointment from the eligible list. Successful candidates who are trainees must complete the traineeship and serve one year at the full performance level to be qualified for appointment from the eligible list.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
